Trump Boosts Family Golf Business

Oh yeah, and what’s this business with a sitting President promoting his family’s private business?

Donald Trump officially opened his new golf course in Aberdeenshire today, backed by a host of celebrities on the final day of his Scotland visit.

The US president, who is on a ‘working holiday’ in Britain, formally opened the second 18-hole course on his estate at an extravagant ribbon-cutting ceremony with a host of VIPs this morning.

…Trump walked onto the podium to the tune of bagpipes before delivering a speech and cutting the ribbon to loud applause.

The president, stood alongside sons Donald Trump Jnr and Eric, then watched on as fireworks in the colours of the American flag erupted into the sky while gay anthem YMCA played via speakers.

He then addressed the crowd, thanking Mr Swinney and delivering an impression of Sean Connery.

He added: ‘I look forward to playing it today. We’ll play it very quickly and then I go back to DC and we put out fires all over the world.’

…Mr Trump will cut the ribbon on a second 18-hole course at his resort in Menie, Aberdeenshire before he flies back to the US on Air Force One.

The president has played several rounds of golf during his Scottish trip, teeing off at his other resort in Turnberry, Ayrshire, on Saturday, Sunday and Monday [Arthur Parashar and David Wilcox, “Donald Trump Opens New Golf Course in Scotland…,” Daily Mail, 2025.07.29].

Good grief: when she was Governor, Kristi Noem faced criticism and legal action over a mere infomercial boosting the Texas dentist who renovated her mouth. Imagine the trouble she’d cause if she showed up in one of her ICE-Barbie costumes in Watertown to open her own hair salon. Or imagine Governor Larry Rhoden spending a working holiday back in Union Center opening his own ranch equipment store. Or imagine Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken promoting his web services from City Hall. South Dakotans would immediately decry such conflicts of interest and demand that their leaders focus on serving the public—all of the public, not just paying customers.

Elected officials aren’t supposed to be moonlighting as golf course operators or marketers for any private business, their own or anyone else’s. They’re supposed to be putting out the world’s fires all the time, not as a sideline to their personal profiteering. The GOP’s tolerance of a shameless self-promoter opening private golf courses for his family’s profits shows the Republican Party’s gross decline into unprincipled servitude to a dictator.
