A President who does not understand the difference between the stock market and the national debt is now pretending to understand how to make health insurance better… by signing an executive order to allow individuals and small business to buy crap insurance that bypasses state regulation:
Under the president’s order, association health plans will be able to avoid many ACA rules, including the law’s benefits requirements, limits on consumers’ yearly and lifetime costs, and ban on charging more to customers who have been sick. Critics warn that young and healthy people who use relatively little insurance will gravitate to those plans because of their lower price tags, leaving older and sicker customers concentrated in ACA marketplaces with spiking rates.
“It would be different pools under different rules,” said one senior health policy source who spoke on the condition of anonymity since the order was not yet public.
On Thursday, the Society of Actuaries similarly criticized the order, saying in a statement: “Healthier consumers will likely be able to enroll in plans with lower insurance rates, while more medically complex consumers may be subject to significant rate increases. Further, there will likely be an increase in solvency risk for association health plans, contributing to market instability” [Amy Goldstein, “Trump Signs Order to Eliminate ACA Insurance Rules, Undermine Marketplaces,” Washington Post, 2017.10.12].
Trump has no data showing his plan will work. He probably can’t even recite the details of what he just signed, let alone explain the real policy impacts. He’s just continuing his vendetta against Barack Obama.
We need to stop Donald Trump’s destructive joyride through the effective domestic and foreign policies established by past administrations. If cowardly Republicans in Washington continue to shy away from putting an end to Trump’s threat to liberty, peace, and prosperity, we will need to elect Democrats and other people of intelligence and conscience to every available office, from Senate and U.S. House on down to state legislature and dog catcher, to curb the President’s power and start putting back together whatever pieces Trump is strewing about in his scorched-earth campaign against history.
It is understandable that a president not understand the national debt, the nations economy or healthcare. These and many more issues are complicated for anyone.
The difference being is that a president needs to reach out to his cabinet and other experts for explanations and advice. President Obama was not afraid to admit that is what he did on regular basis on many national concerns.
Now we have a ‘president know-it-all and has said so on numerous occasions that he can do it all by himself. With a great threat to a country that is exactly what he is doing and it is pretty damn scary.
The real concern for republicans is that Trump will be removed from office by impeachment or the implementation of the 25th Amendment before their tax plan can be voted on and enacted.

“Puerto Ricans have suffered greatly in the past month. Two hurricanes devastated our homes and our electrical infrastructure leaving us without the essentials to survive: drinkable water, food and medicine. But perhaps more frustrating has been the devastating actions, time after time, by a President whose tweets, comments and actions seem to be taken out of a book on “how to add insult to injury” rather than a book on “how to help during a humanitarian crisis”. He is simply incapable of understanding the contributions, the sacrifices and the commitment to democratic values that Puerto Ricans have shown over decades. Sorry guys, it works, it’s less expensive and yo udon’t have to fund the killing of babies like you do with the Obummercare “insurance” policies that are vastly more expensive. Trump’s incompetence may usher in single payer health coverage faster than we could have otherwise hoped. Trump’s healthcare plan is for sick people to declare bankruptcy and for healthy people to buy cheap policies that cover very little. What happens when a healthy person encounters serious health issues under Trump’s plan? They just declare bankruptcy like Trump is fond of doing. Sign me up for Trumpdon’tcare!

Jerry, the trick is to compartmentalize your assets like Trump has done with corps. and llc’s. It is a little trickier with a personal bankruptcy, but with proper planning all things are possible.

Apparently, OldShep, you didn’t read the part where it says you and you alone are responsible for your bills. It is written in black and white and says other people are not obligated to pay your bills.

I have a policy, a contract, that lists what benefits (payments) will be made and what my costs are. I think that is the whole point of insurance – the guarantee of payment. I accept that many companies will drag their feet and reject in the hopes of you giving up contractual rights, but there are legal obligations spelled out.
As for the Liberty Health Share, I would never want my life to be on the line, reliant on someone else volunteering to shoulder my health care costs, but I also say God bless those who are participating who may be throwing in extra money from their pocket to help others.

Cory, long before the ACA/Obamacare even had President Obama in the senate, there were states (Wyoming for one) that allowed cross state line sales. No one had ever taken that measure before 2010 and even now, the only South Dakota company that does that is Sanford. They sell in North Dakota, South Dakota and parts of Iowa and Minnesota. Not at the same cost though. This dog won’t hunt.
As we stumble towards the abyss, we can now be assured that trump/republicans now owns his broken healthcare system along with NOem, Thune and Rounds. ACA has stopped to exist, trumpcare is now the mantra. This is now their liddle baby, lock stock and barrel. Sin por sin.

Your chances of banding together and getting a low rate do not look good as the insurers are not interested. You could have bought insurance across state lines under Obama Care and several states set it up. To date there have been no takers from the insurance industry.
Good catches on OldSarg’s church health bill racket. I can’t buy that coverage, because I’m not Christian. And it’s not coverage; it’s a crapshoot. Their website makes clear that if you get sick, no one is required to cover your illness.
OldSarg is beating another bad drum, the tired trope that private charity and the church can solve all of our problems. Not even the Founding Fathers believed that. If they had, they wouldn’t have fought the Revolution, let alone thrown out the Articles of Confederation in favor of a stronger federal government.
