Slate Notices Referred Law 20, Cites DFP as Reliable Source

The day before the election, Slate takes a moment to catalog the most important ballot measures of 2016. Winning parenthetical mention on that list is one measure many of you helped me put on the ballot, South Dakota’s Referred Law 20:

Maine, Washington, Colorado, and Arizona will vote on minimum wage increases on Tuesday. Washington voters could send the minimum wage up to $13.50 by 2020; Maine, Colorado, and Arizona to $12 by 2020. (Also, South Dakota will vote on whether to reject a legislative statute that reduces the minimum wage for workers younger than 18 from $8.50 to $7.50 an hour. Those workers can’t vote, of course.) [Henry Grabar, “Pot, Pay, Guns, and Trains: Slate‘s Guide to the Most Important Ballot Measures of 2016,” Slate, 2016.11.07]

Do you see that link in the quote? I didn’t put it there. When national publication Slate went looking for an authoritative source worth linking for readers to study South Dakota’s unique minimum wage cut proposal, Slate turned to my Ballot Question page on Referred Law 20.

I suppose Slate could have turned to RL 20 sponsor Senator David Novstrup’s webpage on his effort to cut the youth minimum wage… if he had one. I’ve given Senator Novstrup’s arguments in favor of his wage cut more free press than he himself has online.

Referred Law 20—study it, then vote No on it tomorrow.

Thanks, Robin! I am heartened that people are clicking that link and that even more people are Googling the ballot measures and following the links to my explanations. South Dakotans are taking these ballot measures seriously.

Roger, thank you for the congratulations, and moreover, for being an intelligent, prepared voter. Go get ’em… and bring ten friends!
