Brown County Commissioner Sutton Not Good at Checking Sources

Brown County Commission chairman Duane Sutton is up for re-election next year. Yet if his Facebook page accurately reflects his primary concerns, Commissioner Sutton is much less worried about mundane Brown County issues and far more worried about free speech, crime and race, worker rights, child-rearing, the federal judicial and executive branches, armed revolution, and the end of the world. Here’s a sample of Commissioner Sutton’s public posts yesterday:

Sure, there’s an open debate to be had about “safe zones” and free speech.

Alas, Sutton retweets Donald Trump’s bogus, race-baiting statistics. The graphic cites as its source the non-existent “Crime Statistics Bureau – San Francisco.”

Here Sutton wryly laments the demise of the 40-hour work week and some unscrupulous and short-sighted employers’ efforts to squeeze more life out of their workers. As a restaurant owner, Sutton surely recognizes the facts that made sensible business leaders adopt the 40-hour week in the first place: workers are healthier, happier, and more productive when they don’t work more than 40 hours a week, while overvaluing work runs counter to family values.

“A well-deserved spanking” appears to be the key phrase here… perhaps an oxymoron at the core of a false tautology? Of course, at work, Commissioner Sutton doesn’t think county IT employees deserve oversight, let alone spanking.

Statesmanly commentary on President Obama had to surface somewhere in Sutton’s discourse.
Duane Sutton Facebook post, 2015.11.29
Hmmm… does Commissioner Sutton want his constituents to adopt this revolutionary attitude toward county government?

We can only hope Commissioner Sutton feels the same way and will expect his county employees to uphold the Constitutional separation of church and state in providing equal service to all citizens, regardless of religious disagreements.

Strangely, that last image of the Supreme Court links to an apoca-prepper site connected with FamilySurvivalSystem.com and ClickBank, which apparently spam folks with pitches for survival and preparedness courses. The site plays an odd animated video dedicated to scaring viewers into believing a vast economic collapse from which Government cannot save them is imminent.

Say what you want about Commissioner Sutton’s casual (??) political spoutings. I might sound the greatest alarm about an elected official’s inability to critically evaluate his sources. Commissioner Sutton cites bogus statistics from a non-existent source a week after the press widely debunked them, then links to an end-times video that predicts an American economic catastrophe by 2014. We can only hope Commissioner Sutton bases his county policy on more reliable sources.

Is he related to Isaac Latterell? Brown County exported him to the more wing-nut friendly environs of Lincoln County. Thanks a lot – NOT.

    *facepalm*

This is what old guys who watch Fox News do. Run mind-numbing slogans through their numb minds and then repeat them to get affirmation. How goes Commissioner Fischbach’s effort to get unpaid tax money for Brown County out of the Joopster?

Why anyone is surprised by this remains a mystery.

This is a profile of a mentality with all the elements of class and race hatred clearly expressed. As Cokie Roberts on NPR this morning observed about the current slate of GOP candidates, facts don’t matter. Anything that expresses their hatreds and their need for violent confrontation is what they choose to express.

Looks like Mr. Sutton is the typical right wing kook.

    1. Not enough creativity to put something up on his own, so repeats stupidity of others.

    2. Concepts small enough to fit on a bumper sticker.

    3. White Whine.

I’ll have to ask Duane about this next time i see him

I couldn’t finish reading his post rants and just quickly scrolled down to Cory’s comments. A main reason why I’m not on FB – too much hatred and drama.

I’m not one that plays the race card, but come on, there is clearly a racist vibe to the statistic one with the black cartoon character with the gun.

Duane didn’t seem to mention the weekly gun massacres that are done every few weeks in America by white males. Let’s see, there’s Sandy Hook, Colorado movie theater, NC church shooting, Platte SD- so many to mention and all done by angry white males.

  9. Jenny 2015-11-30 11:22

I take that back, actually it’s up to weekly mass shootings, especially the angry white male family massacres.

If the economy collapsed the last couple of years,we need more such collapses in the future. It is a given we will get more collapses as soon as wingnuts get total control of gubmint-guaranteed.

ps-in the 60s many 18-20 year olds were allowed to enter colleges to escape the draft. Check out pols on both sides to see if their kids were patriotic. Many managed to enroll in the National Guard to escape service. By the latter years of the war the military had dumbed done restrictions so they could conscript southern whites and mostly blacks with low IQs for cannon fodder. Makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

If the muscular middle-aged cartoon guy wearing camo and the strap presumably from his man purse predicts economic collapse 1-2 years ago then surely it happened. He’s talking about Greece, right?

  13. Bill Fleming 2015-11-30 11:49

To paraphrase Kurt Vonnegut, if the brains behind these FB posts ^^^ were dynamite, there’s not enough there to blow off their tinfoil hats. :-)

If you take the War/Revolution meme and change the photo from colonial white guys to 60’s Black Panthers, would it still ring true for Mr. Sutton?

  15. caheidelberger Post author | 2015-11-30 13:32

Even if anonymous-cartoon-avatar dude was talking about Greece, he’s still missing the mark: we didn’t see the Greek government collapse from its economic troubles or Greeks resort to FamilySurvivalSystem.co’s whacky survivalist manuals to get by.

No word on Commissioner Fischbach’s push for our back bank franchise tax, Rohr! Remember, the Department of Revenue can’t tell us.

Peter Schiff predicts crashes about once every six months, generally about the amount of time it takes him to put out a new book. Fear is great for selling politicians, books and gold, which is also something Schiff is into selling. Schiff seems to work that part of the investment market that is spooked easily, ie., the right wing.

I’ve got to adopt that business model, Donald. What could I scare my readers about that (1) would get them to send me more money and (2) wouldn’t cause them to turn on me every six months when they realize my prediction was wrong again?

  19. Bill Fleming 2015-12-01 12:31

It’s not just “fear” Cory, it’s that just-right-recipe of “fear” and “greed.” Advertisers have been looking for that secret sauce since the beginning of commerce. Religions too, come to think of it… and Politics (which goes without saying.) ;-)

Oh you have no idea Matt. Stick to ink an toner….please. Go away
