Mickelson Unhappy with Cost of Marsy’s Law…

…and my reminder that he didn’t do much to stop it.

Yankton County States Attorney Rob Klimisch says the county needs to hire him another staffer to handle extra work created by Amendment S, the crime victims bill of rights sponsored by California billionaire Henry T. Nicholas and made law by South Dakota voters last year. Speaker G. Mark Mickelson (R-13/Sioux Falls) notices the WNAX report and cites Nicholas’s vanity bill as an example of the out-of-state ballot measures he’s trying to deter with his unconstitutional campaign finance reform initiative.

I ask Speaker Mickelson where his complaints were in 2015 and 2016 when his fellow South Dakota Republican Jason Glodt was spending Nicholas’s out-of-state money to lead his vanity initiative to victory at the polls. Speaker Mickelson responds by telling me I’m full of crap:

CAH & GMM, Twitter exchange, 2017.09.22.
CAH & GMM, Twitter exchange, 2017.09.22.

For the record, I’ll state that facts get in my way far more frequently than they get in the way of Republicans on issues like, oh, maybe, immigration. (Hey, Mark, it’s not members of my caucus drinking in rumors and conspiracy theories from out-of-state speakers at radical McCarthyite rallies!)

I will not stand in the way of any facts you readers wish to provide on the efforts of Mickelson or any other Republican leaders to raise serious and ongoing objections to Marsy’s Law during their pal Jason’s 2015 petitioning or the 2016 campaign.

    A faultless wingnut. Who knew.

Everybody is unhappy with this boondoggle of a money wasting law bill foisted upon us by big money out-of-state special interests who jammed this down our maws with rich payments to that one fellow that set it up.

Mr. Jackley could come to rue this Marsy’s Law.

Funny, M—I’ve always thought of Mickelson as more of a down-the-center Chamber type, not a wingnut.

I agree, Cory. Mickelson-the-Younger carries H2O for the Chamber. Wingnuts are hostile toward him as he is to them.

The crazies in the legislatures are afraid of Mr. Mickelson, for he is not of their insaner ilk and has powers and brains they do not have. Mr. Mickelson may be a bit of an arrogant bosstard but he does outsmart most of those fellows who are insaner than most, and the weaker-brained libbies realize he is a conservative with common sense and bow a knee to him.

Thank you republicans. More feel-good. More big government. More taxes. More nanny state.

…and nanny state applied only to political donors to ballot questions, not to out-of-state donors to Republican candidates.
