Aberdeen Woman Blames Liberals for Lazy Trump’s Failure

A recent Leonard Pitts Jr. column asked “What Is Wrong with Trump?” In a letter to the editor in this morning’s Aberdeen American News, my neighbor Pati Koeniguer says what’s wrong with Trump is “the bleeding liberals” (yikes—I check, and I appear not to have any open, running wounds… but there I go thinking Trumpist words mean something):

They are fighting him tooth and nail whenever he tries to get anything done. You should be looking to the House and Senate who put up all the roadblocks.

Obama took eight years to ruin this country, it will take more than six months to fix it. Quit acting like spoiled brats and let the man do his job [Pati Koeniguer, letter to the editor, Aberdeen American News, 2017.08.04].

Trying to blame the minority party for the failure of the majority party controlling Congress and the White House to get things done doesn’t make sense. Donald Trump himself would disagree with Koeniguer’s blame-shifting… or at least he would have before he became President:

Donald Trump, tweets, 2013.11.08 and 2012.09.26.
Donald Trump, tweets, 2013.11.08 and 2012.09.26.

Newsweek captures what’s really wrong with Trump on its newest cover:

Newsweek, cover, 2017.08.11
Newsweek, cover, 2017.08.11

Lazy, weak, utterly uninformed and incoherent—that’s a short list of what’s wrong with the man occupying the White House. Liberals caused none of that… and it will take liberals and conservatives working together far more than six months to fix the damage those un-Presidential characteristics have done to our great country.

While running for office Trump claimed only he could do it. Just one of his absurd boasts.

An incompetent leader does not deserve blind support. I doubt that those that worship Trump will even waver when he proclaims himself a god. After all he can shoot people down in the street without losing support. His status as a self proclaimed deity cannot be far behind.

Indeed, Jeff, there’s a hard core that won’t brook any criticism of their new God Trump. Koeniguer’s letter cites no achievements by Trump; it only recycles her hatred for liberals and shifts blame to them. “I voted for President Trump because I am fed up with all the crime and foul play in Washington,” she writes, even as the special prosecutor convenes a grand jury.

Trump people don’t want to deal with practical problem solving. They want to keep playing Archie Bunker, shouting at their perceived enemies on television, even when it’s their own heroes working against their better interests… or, as Donald Trump leaves for seventeen days of golfing in New Jersey, not working at all.

Obama had a filibuster proof majority in the Senate for a total of 4 months in his first 2 years.

Due to illnesses of Ted Kennedy and later of Robert Byrd and eventually Kennedy’s death, it is amazing much stuff got done at all. Mass special election was won by wingnut Scott ‘I took it all off for Cosmo’ Brown

After Kennedy returned to the Senate in his final year, I don’t think he ever cast another vote.

    Sigh
    If this were true
    I’d gladly accept
    The blame

Trump also said changing health care would be so easy, adding that his administration would quickly make all of us so tired of winning, winning, winning. Guess some people are more susceptible to the influences of a demagogue.

    I guess P.T. Barnum was right…

Don’t forget enabler-in-chief John Thune who continually blames the Democrats for Trump’s inability to nominate 357 people to fill government posts that require senate confirmation.
As David Newquist notes in his most recent post, Trump got the cabinet he wanted with the support of republicans and a smattering of Democrat on occasion.

Democrats have obstructed nothing that Trump has attempted. His “mean” healthcare bill was derailed by republicans with common sense and not by Democrats.

To paraphrase former President Obama, ‘you wanted him, you got him’.

Maybe it is time not only to vet refugees more stringintly but also the people that are in positions of power in our government all the way done the line. How can our mayor, who supposedly is serving the people of Aberdeen, in all good conscience open the doors to all the refugees that are coming here? Who is paying him to turn a blind eye to what is happening here? he says they are filling jobs that Americans don’t want. How about living wages that are not supplimented by the government, and giving large tax breaks to business’ like the beef plant when they hire refugees. How can Aberdeen support more than 1,000 refugees when we can’t take care of our own needy people. Let’s take care of Americans first and not take anymore refugees in Aberdeen! – Pati Koeniguer from Americans First, Task Force of Aberdeen, SD

Excellent link, Mr Newquist. Unfortunately it will be all for naught because Dems are mad they lost the election. That is Drumpf’s go to line anymore.

Drumpf is patting himself on the back for the high Dow marks when for months before the election he was claiming it was a bubble and going to burst.

Trump tweeted Obama about taking vacations and playing golf too much.

Truth-O-Meter – Trump has broken records big time by taking more vacation time than any other president the first year off and this is not even including the additional three week vacation planned at Mar-Lago.

  11. Jenny 2017-08-04 14:38

Heck, maybe Trump should just promote and advocate for all working Americans to take the month of August off as mandatory paid leave.

Hey, I’d go for it, all of our politicians get it off and most of Europe. At the end or our lives when we look back are we going to say I wish I had spent more time working or I wish I hadn’t worked so much and spent more time with my family.

Of course the lady doesn’t say what Obama destroyed or how Trump is going to fix what was destroyed what we don’t know what was destroyed. God I’m getting a headache.

Thune holding Town Hall meetings Cory? He’s to scared to have them as is Rounds and Noem

  13. John 2017-08-05 20:28

45th’s taken more vacation days in 7 months than did Obama in 8 years.

  14. Cory Allen Heidelberger Post author | 2017-08-06 08:12

That might overstate the comparison, John. WaPo counts the days this way:

By our count, by the end of August, Trump will have spent all or part of 53 days in office at leisure, compared with 15 days for Obama through August 2009. What’s more, Trump will have played at least 33 rounds of golf, nearly double Obama’s 17 rounds — and that’s even before Trump gets to his vacation spot, an actual golf course [Philip Bump, “By End of August, Trump Will Have Spent Three Times as Many Days at Leisure as Obama,” Washington Post, 2017.08.03].

The Trump Golf Count says Trump has visited golf courses 42 times in the last seven and a half months, with golfing confirmed to to taken place on at least 20 of those visits. Taxpayers have paid at least $57 million for those trips. If Trump maintains this pace and declares martial law to hold the White House for a second term, he’ll make 605 golf-course visits in eight years. During his eight years in the White House, Obama went golfing 306 times.

Drumpf claimed yesterday his 17 day vacation is not a vacation.

  16. Jenny 2017-08-06 10:59

Trump should really get some exercise, as he is most likely in the moderate to high risk category for a heart attack. He’s overweight, looks like he sweats, doesn’t deal with stress well at all and has a horrific temper. Would watch the BP closely and put him on an exercise and weight loss program with weekly visits to an anger management therapist.
Cholesterol levels I would check also.

  17. Roger Cornelius 2017-08-06 13:03

Trump is literally and figuratively a fat ass.

Harry S Truman 70 years ago- “Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home — but not for housing. They are strong for labor — but they are stronger for restricting labor’s rights. They favor minimum wage — the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all — but they won’t spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine — for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing — but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing — so long as it doesn’t spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it. Now, my friends, that is the Wall Street Republican way of life. But there is another way — there is another way — the Democratic way, the way of the Democratic Party.”

According to Snopes this is from a speech that President Truman gave back in 1948, but it could just as easily be given by a Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, or even Bernie Sanders today, and be just as timely.

Late today, Tuesday 09, Thune announced that he will be holding a town hall in Lemmon at 2:00pm.

Hopefully some of the good people of Lemmon will be able to challenge Thune on his recent ignorant votes on healthcare reform since most South Dakota voters don’t have time enough to travel to the isolated town.
