Episode 016: Spencer and Joe Check out the Fearmongers!

Hot off the Mac—it’s the latest Dakota Free Press Podcast! In Episode #16, friend of the blog Joe Berns joins co-host Spencer Dobson to sit in on Aberdeen’s latest fearfest, the June 16 anti-Muslim slideshow featuring “Understanding the Threat” book peddlers John Guandolo and Chris Gaubatz. Joe and Spencer survived with their logic and mortality intact!

But first, Spencer and I talk about…

  • whether Randy Bryce has what Democrats need to win,
  • how campaign finance law in South Dakota remains far too friendly to big money,
  • what good the latest ruling against Trump and Dakota Access does, and
  • Cory’s field trip to Pierre to speak up for direct democracy!

Great show. Where else can you get honyockers and Muslim Ted Nugents in the same hour? Luckily the oldsters that attended this carnival of excrement probably don’t know how to spread the hostility on the internet … like Grudzie can’t. Barbershops and breakfast joints however are probably ripe for spreading their hate speech manure.
Cory … I know there’re no rattlesnakes in ESD and there are rattlesnakes West River. How about on LaFramboise Island?

Thanks, Porter! I wondered about snakes as I ran the island. I neither nor heard any. GF&P says rattlers, South Dakota’s only native venomous snake, can be found all along the river, both banks. GF&P also says rattlers head for shade in direct sunlight and temps of 100°F; I ran at high noon, but the temp was maybe just a bit above 90°F.

On spreading the hate online—there may be plenty of those older folks in the hall not amplifying the hate via social media, but they have some younger devotees working that Facebook page.

speaking of fear mongers, last month I mistakenly suspected Journal editorialist Mike Sanborn a spy. I apologize.

    https://gfp.sd.gov/wildlife/critters/amphibians-reptiles/snakes/prairie-rattlesnake.aspx

According to the map, prairie rattlers have a contiguous buffer strip of residency on the east side of the Mighty Mo.

Western iowa has rattlers in the Loess Hills. Whose to say some ambitious snake didn’t listen to Horace Greeley as a young snake and populate Eastern South Dakota?

Besides, with a state run by wingnuts…………….

Leslie, was there a parade at Mt. Rushmore? What was on the float? Which group sponsored it?
