A.G. Jackley: Bollen to Change Plea in EB-5 Case Wednesday

Dang it! I clear my calendar for the week starting February 7, and what do I get? This media advisory from the Attorney General’s office:

Attorney General Marty Jackley advises that Joop Bollen is scheduled to appear on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. at the Brown County Courthouse for a Change of Plea Hearing. Attorney General Jackley will be present and available for any questions after the hearing [Attorney General’s office, media advisory, 2017.01.30].

I’m bummed that I don’t get to play courtroom reporter for a whole week. Marty Jackley, Mike Rounds, and other well-placed Republicans may be glad that there will be no chance of Bollen airing dirty EB-5 laundry in the course of a vigorous defense.

The devil will be in the deal so to speak, but it will be interesting if the AG agrees to a slap on the wrist for Bollen, just to keep from airing the dirt laundry of Rounds and others.

I’m anxious to see what this sweetheart plea will include, or more importantly what it will not include.

Darn. I wanted to come up for some of that trial too. Guess we won’t be learning anything new about the EB5 scandal.

Cory, is it just coincidental that around the same time that Stace Nelson is calling for a special prosecutor to be named in the EB-5 matter that Joop Bollen gets a plea deal?

No, i dont think so darin. This is big boy legal stuff. Rounds lawyers have been watching. Daugaard’s lawyers have been watching. Lots of AGs and Regent’s lawyers have been too. NSU’s lawyers too. Tidemann’s , Cali and Chinese lawyers too, not to mention Egyptian Antiquities folks, federal lawyers and Joop’s formidable firm which has the best understanding of this Republican state government farce. And Cory too. Daugaard may still windup holding the bag. Joop will likely pay nothing for the grief he created. Jackley’s weak prosecution has done state residents wrong. But state republicans were protected.

So Bollen will plead no contest to a class 1 misdemeanor, get 30 days jail – all suspended – and pay a $1,000 fine. No need to rat on the little Rounder with that deal. Case closed. “Nothing else to see here – move along,” says Marty and the GOP legislative leadership.

What’s that smell? Coverup won’t hide that stench.

David Newquist, I was just reading this article and that quote stood out. We do live in an autocracy!

Thanks for the link and I would encourage everyone to read it.

In a few days we will know the facts. But, it is more fun to jump to conclusions. Hilarious.

Troy, yer side wouldn’t recognize a fact if it kicked you in the arse.

In a few days we will know the “alternative facts.”

  12. Roger Cornelius 2017-01-31 17:48

    Have the facts, Troy?

We’ll never have the facts now that Joop has taken a plea and we’ll never know what witnesses would have said.

Richard Benda is still dead so there is nothing we can learn from him
