How corrupt is it?

—South Dakota is so corrupt that even the folks at the center of our scandals want to work elsewhere.

The judge in the GEAR UP corruption cases has given defendant Stacy Phelps permission to go job-hunting north of our border:

Stacy Phelps, of Kyle, was given judicial approval to leave the state to attend a job interview in North Dakota from Jan. 9 to 11, court documents state, in which Phelps intended to seek employment with the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation on the Fort Berthold Reservation in western North Dakota [“Former GEAR UP Administrator Seeks Job with ND Tribe,” Mitchell Daily Republic, 2017.01.19].
