SD Democrats Urge No on Referred Laws 19 & 20

The GOP spin blog continues to promulgate the notion that South Dakotans are too tired to rise to their democratic duty of studying the ten statewide ballot measures and casting informed Yes and No votes. The South Dakota Democratic Party can at least give you good reasons to say No to the two referred laws at the end of your ballot, 19 & 20.

Here’s my party’s statement on Referred Law 19, the Incumbent Protection Plan:

Referred Law 19 was written by an unreasonable and out-of-touch political establishment in Pierre to protect incumbents from the judgment of voters. Among the many unwarranted and damaging changes this law would make to our elections, Referred Law 19 increases the number of signatures required on nominating petitions, moves the deadline to collect signatures on nominating petitions back a month, and forbids members of political parties from signing petitions for Independent candidates. We urge the voters of South Dakota to send the political establishment of our state a strong message and vote ‘no’ on Referred Law 19 [SDDP, press release, 2016.11.02].

And here’s the SDDP on Referred Law 20, the Novstrups’ effort to cut the minimum wage for young workers:

“We strongly encourage the voters of South Dakota to vote ‘no’ on Referred Law 20. Just months after voter raised the minimum wage in 2014, the political establishment in Pierre rejected the will of the voters and lowered the minimum wage for workers 17 years old and younger. Referred Law 20 economically discriminates against younger workers by allowing employers to pay them less based on nothing but their age. This referred law is just another example of how out of touch the political establishment in Pierre is from the values of the majority of South Dakota voters. Democrats stand with the majority of South Dakotans who believe the minimum wage should be the minimum wage for everyone, regardless of their age [SDDP, press release, 2016.11.03].

Referred Laws 19 and 20 are both errors committed by arrogant, out-of-touch legislators who think they know better than you, the voters. On Tuesday, send those legislators a message to the contrary by voting No on 19 and 20… and if you’re in District 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 32, 33, 34, or 35, send those legislators home by voting for their Democratic challengers.

Did you see that people are saying to Vote No on 23 because it is backed by Hillary and Mr. Obama? Ol’ grudznick is still encouraging Vote NO on Everything. Mostly because 99.99% of the money behind these hideous experiments are coming from out of state. There is an article in the Sunday paper about that. It is the people ignorant of this who will vote yes.

Yes, people who actually read will be able to vote yes on this, good point Mr. grudzick. People that just do not get it will vote no. I do not know if that is ignorant or not, but tend to think it is very ignorant to vote no on 23.

Is Mr. Obama running for office here in South Dakota?
