Thune Still Cozying up to Trump

Ignoring Stan Adelstein’s call for South Dakota Republicans to show some conscience and repudiate Donald Trump, Senator John Thune continues to run interference for Il Duce and his “I ♥ Saddam” t-shirt. While some of his Republican colleagues gave Trump what for in his Capitol Hill meeting last Thursday, Senator Thune came out saying Republicans need to work with Trump:

Noem Thune Rounds Monkeys
Hear no evil, see no evil, speak out against no evil.

Other members present, however, downplayed the tension during the meeting.

“I think those guys have been pretty blunt in their criticism. And I think what he was attempting to do, in my view anyhow, was to sort of say we all want in the end the same thing,” Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, the third-ranking Senate Republican, told CNN about Trump’s remarks. “We want constitutionalists on the Supreme Court. We want a conservative agenda for this country. The only way to get that is if we’re all working together. He’s got his own way of doing that. I thought it was fine” [Maeve Reston, Manu Raju, and Ted Barrett, “Trump Clashes with GOP Critic,” CNN.com, 2016.07.08].

South Dakotans, if you want someone who will call out Trumpism, you’ll have to vote for Jay Williams… or maybe the Constitution Party’s secret nominee!

Rep. Noem was similarly nonchalant about Trump’s Capitol Hill arm-twisting, saying there was “nothing new” and “no controversy.”

According to Talking Points Memo, Thune is still deciding whether to attend the Republican National Convention next week in Cleveland. Little buddy Senator Mike Rounds, however, is on the Going list.

Thune is still hoping to be Trumpy McTrumpface’s VP choice, or at the very least to become part of President Trumpy McTrumpface’s cabinet. He’s smooching patootie big time. His lip stick is all over McTrumpface’s arse.

I have it on authority that Allen Unruh’s (who supports Trump) Colorado relatives (who don’t support Trump) are a mere 1 vote away from stealing the GOP party nomination away from Trump at the convention. 1 vote! Trump’s toast. Paul Ryan to the rescue! He didn’t want to be Speaker, and look what happened. He doesn’t want to be President either. You heard it here first.

Seems like the Scotus has been dismantling the conservative agenda.

Paul Ryan can’t be trusted. He will turn to “Trumpitness” when he needs to but has to save face to the American Public and pretend he doesn’t really agree with Trump. He definitely wants to be Presidential material and seize the opportunities when they arrive. If Trump chooses Thune for anything, oh boy. Expect nothing to get done.

Thune: your conservative agenda which keeps you employed with good health care so you can keep up on your jogging on company time wont do anything to protect our grandchildren from increasing cloud height and storm tracks MOVING away from subtropics towards the n.&s. poles. This is something new for Noem. Global Warming is becoming more extreme than predicted. Nature, july 2016

Ror, it’s a rare day that I cheer for Unruhs. Tell your authorities to call me and give DFP the scoop on the stolen convention!

News today is that Thune didn’t make Trumpy McTrumpface’s shortlist for VP. Trumpy says he’ll call Thune when he needs someone to stand behind him and remain silent at press conferences.

Christie, Pence, and Gingrich. Tell me, Ror: Who among these three makes the GOP faithful stand up and cheer the most? Who among these three makes anyone else stand up and cheer at all?

  14. Rorschach 2016-07-12 15:55

New Jersey will cheer to be rid of Christie, but they’re almost rid of him already. Indiana will cheer to be rid of Pence. Gingrich prompts only indifference from everybody at this point, where he once stood in great esteem with conservatives. Now he’s just another Trump arse kisser begging to be dragged out of the political junkyard and gussied up. Think of him as a well used ’69 Impala. Not quite a classic, but mildly interesting to people who like that brand.

  15. Craig 2016-07-12 17:08

Christie has too much baggage (pardon the pun) and doesn’t bring anything to the table. If an election was held today he wouldn’t even win his own state.

Pence pretty much ensures the moderates vote for Hillary. He is the face of anti-LGBT laws and has enough controversy surrounding him to give the opposition ammunition through November. His alignment with Trump would also hurt his appeal in the future.

Gingrich is the only one who really helps Trump. He is an inside man and well loved by Conservatives and many moderates. He has the attitude of not caring what people think, yet has went his own direction often enough that even some Democrats have good things to say about him. The problem with Gingrich is that he appears to be more of a leader than Trump and is in a better position to be taken seriously. Trump might look like a puppet – and I doubt Trump would like that.

Any way you slice it we have two rich old white guys representing the GOP. What are the chances right?!?
