Pat Powers does his sponsors’ bidding and advertises a “big” Americans for Prosperity event in Sioux Falls Monday. From 6 to 8 p.m., the Koch brothers are hosting a buffet dinner at the Sheraton for $5. They are staging a similar feed Tuesday in Rapid City at the Best Western Ramkota, same price, same times.
All you can eat for five bucks is a heck of a deal. An eager reader suggests that it would almost be cost-effective to close down operations at the Banquet in Sioux Falls or the Mission in Rapid those nights, buy tickets for the local homeless and low-income folks, and send them over to have AFP dinner. Maybe Floyd “Deacon Pete” Pickett will return to Sioux Falls to serve the homeless on Monday. A full five-dollar meal would certainly be more filling than the coffee and fineries he bought for his flock at Josiah’s last summer.
Plus, that five bucks buys not just food but food for thought, as diners get to hear from Denver political consultant and occasional Fox News chatter Caleb Bonham, who could tell the Banquet and Mission clientele how they can all improve their lot in life if they just express their faith in public and stay away from liberal colleges.
Neither Koch brothers buffet is in a convenient downtown location, so a benefactor handing out tickets at the downtown libraries would want to provide van rides out to the events. Again, that would be no problem for Pickett; just have humanitarian Rod Aycox send another check!
