Finck Likes Mike—Don’t Say That Too Loudly in Hanson and McCook Counties

Dakota War College posts District 19 Senate candidate Caleb Finck’s press release and asks for money for the young Tripp native’s campaign. Somehow, I don’t think Finck will have trouble getting GOP establishment money…

Finck contributed this thirty seconds of shifty-eyed fluff to Mike Rounds’s 2014 U.S. Senate campaign.

Finck might want to check where he hoots about liking Mike back home. Rounds won 47.3% of the 2014 primary vote in District 19. Pulling him down from his statewide 55.5% average was overperformance of then District 19 Rep. Stace Nelson, who more than doubled his own statewide average by pulling 39.4% of the primary vote against the popular former governor:

County Douglas Hanson Hutchinson McCook Bon Homme (P1, 3, 4) District 19 Total Percent
Stace Nelson 190 320 269 313 115 1207 39.4%
Larry Rhoden 88 23 126 86 64 387 12.6%
Mike Rounds 248 97 599 278 227 1449 47.3%
Jason Ravnsborg 18 3 24 19 21 85 2.8%
Dr. Annette Bosworth 42 10 98 26 24 200 6.5%
586 453 1116 722 184 3061 100.0%

Nelson crushed Rounds in his home county of Hanson and beat Rounds in McCook. Rounds more than doubled up on Nelson in Finck’s home county of Hutchinson.

Finck evidently represents the mainstream, moderate, “just win elections” Rounds wing of the SDGOP. If he draws a primary challenger from the true-conservative Nelson wing, he could face a stiff battle in District 19.

    All the best to Caleb!

This guy’s body language doesn’t match his message at all. Repeated shrugging of his shoulders as he speaks. Subtle side to side head shakes. Shifty eyes – as noted – and refusal to look at the camera. And saying at the end, “And I really believe that.”

Who forced that doughboy to do a video?

Larry, good link! Apparently, Finck’s outreach efforts aren’t effective.

I scanned the article in the MDRepublic, but did not see “Republican” anyplace in it…maybe I just missed it.

Interesting, Douglas! The MDR article cut off the press release before reaching Finck’s mention of his membership in the College Republicans.

Stace Nelson runs nasty vicious campaigns, as evidenced by reserving a website with Rep. Oran Sorenson’s name in the 2010 election to post false stuff about Oran. This year he’s already at it. If you go to the press release blog you will see Stace or his minions already smearing Caleb Finck, calling the chubby Mike liker a cross dresser. This ain’t a college hot dog eating contest Caleb. You’re against a bigger, chubbier, nastier opponent than you ever had in a student association election. If you are indeed wearing panties you better put on your big boy pants and start talking gawd, guns and ‘merica.
