Hawks Campaigning Despite Family Medical Issue; AP Overtags and Undercites GOP Spin Blog Criticism

State Rep. Paula Hawks (D-9/Hartford) announces that she has scaled back her campaign for U.S. House during the last several weeks because of a family health issue. Pat Powers baselessly questions the veracity of Hawks’s statement, criticizes her effort to get back on the campaign trail and remind voters of the need for change in Washington, then moans about not getting mentioned by name in AP’s story about Hawks:

Recently, a conservative blog has commented on the lack of activity from Hawks’ campaign. Hawks says she intends to “do what it takes to be a competitive candidate in this race” [“Paula Hawk’s [sic!] Bid Has Taken Back Seat in Family Health Scare,” AP via KELO-TV, 2015.12.21].

What’s this “a conservative blog” stuff, Associated Press? It should properly be noted as “THE conservative blog, dakotawarcollege.com.”

Hmph. No love from the Mainstream media for a fellow journalist [Pat Powers, “No Love from the AP,” Dakota War College, 2015.12.21].

Yes, AP, I’m with Pat. You should name the blog, your one thin source of paid partisan hackery trying to hype Democrats’ refusal to follow his preferred campaign schedule, a schedule that the last state legislator to run for Congress didn’t follow, either. You should name Pat Powers as the one blogger dancing on a sick child in his zeal to make partisans salivate. You should cite Pat Powers and the one post he put up before Thanksgiving saying the Hawks campaign was kinda quiet before self-contradictorily finding plenty of statements from Hawks over the past month out of which to make partisan hay. You should identify Powers accurately as South Dakota’s most reliable source not of journalism but of verbatim reprinting of South Dakota Republican press releases (current count: 44 of last 100 posts appear to be straight reprints from Republican officials and lobbying groups).

Go ahead, AP. If you’re going to cite blogs as reliable indicators of public opinion, you shoudl cite the blogs accurately so that readers can check that reliability for themselves.

More irony from DWC where Kristi Noem is free to pimp her kids but Democrats cannot.

This is one point we can agree on. If the MSM is going to use blogs as a source, they need to cite the blog by name.

Just when you think Powers couldn’t be a bigger jerk …

  4. larry kurtz 2015-12-22 09:40

And just when Cory chided me for being the Democrat PP DWC is getting free press.

You have done a good job of turning people away from the SD Dem Party. Actually helped our cause too.

Is Powers ashamed of “chemical toilet” name?

    Fleming: great job thumping PP.

I thought this thread was about Paula Hawks, why did it get derailed so quickly?

It is simple Roger, no one wants to even consider that Hawks has anything important to say. When she does give a presser, they take the written word and act like it was not even written. There is a sound like Trump and company these days, and it just proves pure ignorance. Her daughter was very ill. In my family, I am clear on how that works as my daughter in law had the cancer in the thyroid that she is now being treated on and is doing well. What posters should consider is why there is such a large amount of folks that live in South Dakota that have thyroid issues. I will point to the west and tell you that is the reason. Go straight across the state from the Aberdeen area and you will see there was open uranium mining that the dirt and dust still blows. What is being done there to prevent the blow, nothing. Go farther west and line up with the tests that were done in Nevada with bombs, then look at the way the wind blows from there. What is being done about that?

Hawks is doing just fine for right now. She has had one hell of a scare, but now, maybe her feet will be planted in the way to make a run at NOem. She has so many things she could use against the incumbent it is almost as if Santa himself or herself has dropped the bag full of goodies. We all could do with some remedial reading assignments so we can at least argue a valid point with her press releases or from media quotes.

Powers has bullied Hawks for months about her campaign. Now he has the nerve to demand credit for his blog amidst a family health crisis? Christian Conservative Republicans should call him out for his mean-spirited mode of operation.

Jason, why would kristian konservative wingnuts call Powers out? Their idea of jesus sure as hell wouldn’t.Their jesus threw the poor out of temples and boogied with the money changers. Just like it says in their version of the bible.

The Hawks campaign has been less than impressive. Her mailings were a bunch of passive sentences and word salad. Her logo looks like a sports team logo. It should have something like “Paula Hawks” instead of “Hawks”. She doesn’t respond to e-mail. She needs to have a meeting with a bunch of people to generate issues and campaign plans.
