Trump Wins Brown County Fair Corn Poll… on Resemblance to Local Mogul?

Donald Trump and corn
Naturally, Trump wins the Corn Poll.

The Brown County Republicans have published the results of their Corn Poll, conducted over six days at the Brown County Fair. The winners match the preferences of the early plinking, with Donald Trump in first place, Ben Carson surging to second, and Ted Cruz leading a far-back second tier. Trump won without giving anyone here free chopper rides.

Even with a margin of error larger than the big six-head Claas Jaguar silage chopper on display at the fair, the Corn Poll shows some interesting alignment with the Real Clear Politics national polling average for the GOP presidential contenders:

Candidate BCF Corn Poll Corn % RCP Avg (7/30–8/13)
Trump 487 27.2% 22.3%
Carson 349 19.5% 7.5%
Cruz 138 7.7% 6.8%
Rubio 133 7.4% 6.0%
Huckabee 118 6.6% 5.5%
Fiorina 114 6.4% 4.3%
Bush 107 6.0% 10.3%
Paul 91 5.1% 4.0%
Walker 84 4.7% 8.5%
Kasich 43 2.4% 3.8%
Christie 35 2.0% 3.8%
Santorum 25 1.4% 1.3%
Graham 22 1.2% 0.8%
Jindal 15 0.8% 1.0%
Perry 14 0.8% 1.5%
Pataki 10 0.6%
Gilmore 5 0.3%

Trump leads by five percentage points more among Brown County Fairgoers than among the national crowd. My neighbors and our sales-tax-boosting visitors put the national #2 and #3, Jeb Bush and Scott Walker, at #7 and #9, respectively. But they rank the next eight—Carson, Cruz, Rubio, Huckabee, Fiorina, Paul, Kasich, and Christie—in the same order as the RCP average before dissolving into static for the under-two-percenters.

One well-placed observer at the GOP table said he heard a lot of voters saying they were marking Trump because he tells it like it is and they are angry. Come on, kids: we all know that when you give in to your anger, you end up with President Palpatine and VP Vader.

University of Minnesota econ prof Roger Feldman suggests another reason Donald Trump could be particularly popular with Aberdeen voters:

Donald Trump, meanwhile, has captured the early enthusiasm of Republican voters, in part because of his self-styled claim to be a wealth creator.

The real story is very different. Trump has become rich by borrowing huge sums of money, taking a cut for himself and losing the rest for other people through bankruptcy. He has destroyed more wealth than a small-scale war [Roger Feldman, “The 2016 Campaign: Good Governor, Good President?Minneapolis Star-Tribune, 2015.08.14].

Hmm… borrowed a lot of money, took his cut, then lost the rest for his investors in bankruptcy… why, that exactly local economic development mogul Joop Bollen‘s recipe for success! Brown County Republicans and Mike Rounds love that kind of entrepreneurial spirit!

Trump won the Brown County GOP Corn Poll not on his resemblance to the top of the corn cob but on his entrepreneurial snow job.

Trump looks like he could eat a 487 piece chicken dinner.

    Trump, a victim of detasseling?

Washington DC is broke, at least Trump was able to recover. If DC was operated like a business it would have been broke years ago. Trump has my vote- Four years from now as Trump stated we will be taking what a great President he is.

Trump is a breath of fresh air-nice to see someone call it like they see it.

Nice haiku, Rorschach! Here’s an interesting treasure map to the Donald’s demise courtesy of Nate Silver: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/donald-trumps-six-stages-of-doom/

The “fantasy island” scenario out here in the Hills has The Donald v. The Bern in the general. More realistically, wouldn’t it at least be fun to see the two of them debate?

I guarantee everyone a wingnut will NEVER be my President.

Not sure which bubble you’re trying to pop, Kurtz. There are so many. More than we can possibly imagine. ;-)

Trump and Thune what a pair they would make. Trump could bring his New York values.Photo Op could be setting by a bale of hay, and talk how Daschle embolded the enemy.Maybe he could talk about S.Dak values when running down Tim Johnson.

The question I have is that Trump thinks Mexico should pay to put up a wall, how does he plan to make Mexico pay for the wall, or anything else?

How could any conservative vote for Trump? He’s a horrible businessman. Just horrible. He’s fiscally irresponsible with borrowed money. He makes sure to take his cut early, invests it in things other than his companies, then watches as his shell corporations sink under debt and bad management. He skates away a wealthy man, while he sticks everyone else with the tab. He builds opulent palaces that provide little of value to the real economy, other than the construction jobs.

You have to laugh. He’s a great marketer, or, perhaps, bullshitter is the proper term. He fools a lot of very smart people, so it’s not surprising that your average dumbshit Republican is taken in. We used to call these sorts of people crooked. Now Republicans worship them, because they are selling a load of bullshit about keeping brown people out. Trump certainly knows how to market to the racist Republican base.

trump appeals to the visceral in people. “YOUR FIRED”. he is a TV personality like a kardashian. like kanye west. no talent. cruelty fires people up on their little reality shows. he is not smart enough or aware enough do do it cunningly like republican leadership. however, it is now certainly yielding results. and he says he is really smart. maybe. every person i hear who likes him, has a slim grasp of politics. of course, america often deserves who it elects.

my prediction: he will be a non-entity like mitt became after service worker SCOTT PROUTY video-ed his intimate M/Billionaires’ schmoozer highlighting his deprecation of the “47%”

“detasseling” Hahahaha! Very funny Jerry. The photo almost shows his bald skull.

People who like Trump say he “tells it like it is.” That’s not what he does that appeals to a specific group. What they like is that he bullies, name calls, extols a variety of bigotry, and picks on the most vulnerable. He’s mean and cruel. That appeals to others who are mean and cruel.

That’s why I find him a repellant, reptilian, and repugnant Republican.
